1.  Brief about the center (Max:10 lines)

RRC, Bathinda Centre is started working from 2nd September 2016. This center is running temporarily from the newly constructed Fish Market Building at the Village Jodhpur Romana, Bathinda Punjab which is adjoining the proposed site of our RRC. Bathinda district is situated in the southern part of Punjab State. It lies between 29o 33’ and 30o 36’ North latitude and 74o 38’ and 75o 46’ East longitude. The district is surrounded by Sirsa and Fatehabad district of Haryana State in the south, Sangrur and Mansa districts in the East, Moga in the North-East and Faridkot and Muktsar districts in North-West. The Bathinda district has 3 Sub-Divisions, Bathinda, Rampura Phool, Talwandi Sabo. Due to geological location of the district it can cover Punjab, Hariyana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh and play a key role in development of Freshwater Aquaculture in the Northern region of India.

3.  Focal Research Areas

  • Dissemination of scientific aquaculture technology to region through training, exposure and need based research
  • Diversification of aquaculture species as here focused on IMC and other carps.
  • Saline water aquaculture (Introduction of salt resistant culture species)
  • Canal water aquaculture

4.  Significant Achievements in last five years:

       Centre establishment and developing basic facilities/infrastructure.

  • Dissemination of scientific aquaculture technology to region through training, exposure and need based research
  • Diversification of aquaculture species as here focused on IMC and other carps.
  • Introduction of species suitable to culture in saline water ( upto 5 ppt)
  • Canal water Aquaculture
  • To establish multiplier unit of Jayanti Rohu and other freshwater species resistant to low salinity.
  • Pearl Culture training facilities as huge demand from farmers
  • To promote the ornamental fish breeding and culture practices
  • Decimation of cat fish (having less spine) culture practices as people preference.
  • Establishment of ICAR-CIFA aqua field school.
