AICRP

ICAR - All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on “Plasticulture Engineering & Technologies”

ICAR-CIFA Centre Project “Application of Plastics in Aquaculture”

It is a Planned Scheme of ICAR and operating at the institute from May 1988

Mandate

  • To identify different areas of fish culture, where plastics can replace traditional materials effectively
  • To develop appropriate gadgets/ systems for aquaculture using plastics, and test their efficiency for better utilization and higher fish production
  • Development of carp production system in greenhouse ponds for low temperature periods

Major Achievements

In 2006 commercialized the Portable FRP Carp Hatchery Technology for production of 1.0-1.2 million fish seed (spawn) in one operation in farmer’s field. Under the project several aquaculture gadgets and systems in plastic materials are designed and developed for use in the field. They are Fish feeders, FRP magur hatchery, Silos for high density fish rearing, Live fish transportation tank, Polyhouse ponds, Mobile fish vending unit, Poly tent drier for fish, etc.

Development of FRP Portable Carp Hatchery: A star technology of the Institute

Release of Technology

His Excellency the Governor of Odisha, Shri Rameshwar Thakur on 14th July 2006 at CIFA, Bhubaneswar, released the FRP Carp Hatchery Technology.

Commercialization of Technology

FRP Carp Hatchery Technology was commercialized by CIFA, Bhubaneswar for the first time in 2006 (highest bid value was Rs 3,03,333/=) and for the second time in 2013 (highest bid value was Rs 13,15,000/=). Both the times the license / right of fabrication and sale were given to M/s. MR Aqua Tech, Bhubaneswar.
